Kristen's passion for nutrition began in high school when she started experimenting in the kitchen by preparing fresh, healthy meals for her parents and siblings. As an athlete on the Long Beach Jr. Crew Varsity Rowing Team from 1988-1991, she began to appreciate the impact that whole food nutrition had on her athletic performance and recovery. After completing her B.A. in Physical Anthropology at the University of California Santa Barbara in 1996, she enrolled in a full-time culinary arts program at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Kristen worked at One Market restaurant in San Francisco and trained under well known and respected chefs in the Bay Area. She completed her internship in the pastry kitchen at the Four Seasons Biltmore Resort in Santa Barbara and was offered a full-time position upon graduating. Within a year, Kristen returned to San Francisco, where she was offered a full-time position in the pastry kitchen at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
Kristen later left the hotel industry to pursue her desire to create a life where she was able to focus on family-first and be in control of her schedule and her financial future. In 2010, Kristen was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease that she later discovered she was able to manage by changing her nutrition. In addition to simple nutritional changes, adding Juice Plus+ whole food nutrition to her daily routine improved her digestion, skin, and her energy. Fueled by a desire to learn more about the power of food, at the age of 40, Kristen applied to graduate school. She completed her M.S. degree in Nutrition at Northeastern University in December 2015 and her certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell.
Kristen focusses on plant-based nutrition with an emphasis on whole foods over processed foods, and simple, achievable changes instead of deprivation or elimination.
